A vegetarian’s food-trail

~ 4 weeks to my ‘Tees’ (30th) ~

As part of my 30th birthday celebrations, @pranmaz very thoughtfully indeed collated a list of restaurants in the island country , serving 30 different cuisines! As our prior travel plans were shelved thanks to the pandemic, Prantik had to improvise and this was such a wonderful plan I thought: my love for food and travel were mashed up into an experience that was tastefully plated to my utter delight!

This week, we visited 3/30 and had some delicious food to satisfy our enthusiastic taste buds. I loved the time I got to spend with the husband, unadulterated, where conversation and food/drinks flowed. We also clubbed some of these as double dates or to just catch up with some friends, over good food. Memorable times indeed.

I must add, ever since I turned vegetarian about a year ago, the task of ensuring there are vegetarian options available was added to the to-do-list. And whilst it isn’t the most easy in a country where seafood and meat options are aplenty, I must congratulate my significant other on accomplishing this not-so-meagre feat, with humble aplomb.

  1. Empress (at the ACM) ~ Chinese cuisine
I was bowled over by their vegetarian sharing set menu and found myself reaching out for more of their ‘Impossible Gyoza’, the ‘Kway Teoy’ and the ‘Sichuan Mapo Tofu hotpot’. One restaurant I can’t wait to get back to!

2. Shabestan ~ Persian cuisine
While they are famous for their kebabs, their dips are equally delicious. Paired with some signature cocktails, while chatting with our friend-couple, it was a lovely start to the weekend indeed.

3. Kafe Utu ~ Kenyan/African cuisine
While not many African cafes can be found in Singapore, this by far stood out not only for it’s interior decor but also for the variety of African cuisines, served under one roof. We went there with a close friend, post a nature trail walk and enjoyed an amazing brunch, amidst rainy weather.

I am not (yet) into food blogging, but who knows if this very vegetarian food trail across Singapore, was just the nudge I needed to foray? DM me your votes! ;)
